In the simplest terms a mortgage is a loan secured against a house. The house becomes the lender's security and you, the applicant, takes out the loan based on your income and affordability.

Residential mortgage have a number of different ways of describing themselves, but they all relate to the same thing, be it; Home Mover, Remortgage, First Time Buyer, Next time Buyer, they all relate to securing a loan on the home you live in.
